In addition to the benefits of faster internet access broadband really enhances the features of your server so that if you host your own mail server, web server, ftp server or remote access for your sales force and home workers. Obviously hosting your own servers needs a degree of caution as yu would not want to compromise the security and integrity of your servers by opening them up to external abuse. If you run Microsoft Servers such as Small Business Server ADSL can really enhance the experience of reading your e-mails, calendar and contacts from any computer with web access when out of the office! You will of course need Microsoft Exchange if you are not running Small Business Server and this applies to Small Business Server 4.5, 2000 and 2003, Exchange 5, 2000 and 2003. Obviously to benefit from taking advantage of these features you will benefit from having a dedicated IP address. Some Internet Service Providers (ISP's) charge extra for having a fixed IP address. You will be pleased to hear that Spitfire Technologies do not penalize you in this way!
Please note that whilst your local exchange may be ADSL enabled you still may not be able to get an ADSL connection. ADSL cannot be installed without the appropriate tests being carried out first. |
